  7. ARABIX is a system-level software package that provides full bilingual
  8. English/Arabic operating system user interface and applications environment.
  9. ARABIX consists of an enhanced Bourne Shell, a selection of UNIX tools and
  10. utilities enhanced to run in a bilingual mode including the UNIX editors ``ed''
  11. and ``vi'' and extended kernel facilities to perform bilingual keyboard
  12. mapping, display processing, and terminal handling, supporting a variety of I/O
  13. devices. The ARABIX Shell allows users to interact with SCO XENIX in the
  14. language of their choice with full language interchangeability at the command
  15. line, file, programming, and applications level. Shell and XENIX system command
  16. messages are displayed in the user local language. The user can switch from a
  17. QWERTY to an Arabic Standard Keyboard with one keystroke. ARABIX offers full
  18. transparency. An 8-bit application running under XENIX/UNIX and ARABIX will
  19. inherit all the OS-level bilingual capabilities. Thus, a user can run an
  20. off-the-shelf English application in an Arabic/English mode instantly with no
  21. modifications. ARABIC co-resides with SCO XENIX/UNIX and causes no interference.
